Autonomy Makes Us Happy, And That’s No Joke | Real World Research

However, as an American, haven't we really been laughing "At the rest of world" for a long time now? Haven't we been number 1 for so long, pointing to other people and other countries who were not s lucky as us, and saying Ha, Ha, Ha look at those stupid asses, can't even figure out how to make some righteous honest money with a job. Can't figure out how to own a home. Can't figure out how to get health care. Can't figure out how to get some food. Can't figure out the money system and how it works.

I believe we have.
We were autonomous at one time, but now we are not.
That old line "By the Grace of God there go I,"---- we would say it, but secretly we thought to ourselves, That could never happen to us, collectively, as a nation. And then it did happen.  And the we lost our 401K's through no fault of our own. And then we lost our house.  And Then we lost our job. And then we lost our health care...Then we lost our autonomy and were at the mercy of somebody else. Doesn't matter who that somebody else was. That somebody else could've been a faceless, colorless spector of another we didn't know who, didn't matter. All we knew was that we were not in control anymore.

This was happening all over the country, so whatever articles came out from the psychobabblists from Amerca hell land,  that had to say anything about  non-autonomous, uncontrabble part of American life at that time, went right out door with the prescription drug meds the psychobabblists from american mental hell were dishing out like jelly beans.

The more that we have a sense of "You can't treat me like that and get away with it" attitude, because, of course, we have more respect and honor and dignity and power within our American selves than anybody else in the rest of world, the better we feel our about ourselves. The more we have that American sense of exceptionalism.

And then, when they, (whoever they are) do treat us like how we don't want to be treated, and do get away with it, and we do nothing, because we can't afford to do anything, the more we get that feeling of "Shut Up and Take It, You need this ____________.(fill in the blank for what you need with your own  choice)

So that's why I find this article titled:  AUTONOMY MAKES US HAPPY, AND THAT's NO JOKE.
Kinda laughable right now.

Autonomy, means no control. It does not mean losing control. But more and more it seems, in this country, our lack of autonomy has made us less empathetic. This is a little known flaw in our national character, that we like to sweep under the Aunt Jemima rug. One by one by one, individually we would laugh and snicker at other people in our own country, and in other countries, all the way to the bank.

And that's no joke.

As I understand it, feeling in control of our lives makes us feel good about ourselves, so we’re nice to ourselves, so we don’t have to laugh at the misfortunes of or cruelty to others.
